The SV Vintage Kilo Sale

Ahoy there you beautiful people!

Our January was so much fun that we thought we’d share it with you. As some of you will know, we had our very first vintage clothing kilo sale in Ayr just over a week ago now. With similar happenings occurring in most major cities across the UK, and on quite a grand scale, we wanted to approach things a little differently. We asked ourselves… what about the people who can’t or don’t want to travel to these major cities to find their vintage wears…? So we decided to trial a local vintage market, bringing affordable vintage wears (just £10 a kilo) to the people outside the city.

We spent some time searching Ayr for a venue that would be in keeping with our vintage theme and entered discussions with The Newmarket. Not only was The Newmarket a beautiful looking bar and restaurant, but we also discovered it had a stunning piece of untouched history as a basement function room. We fell in love with the space and decided pretty quickly that this was to be the venue for our first ever market.

The day of the event came around pretty quickly and there was lots of work to do to make the space feel relaxed, welcoming and organised. We accentuated the features of the room with lights, which worked so well with the mirrored panels in the walls. We also fashioned our own fitting room out of a spring loaded curtain rail which extended across a small area of space, within which the beautiful mirrored wall panelling continued and allowed customers to view their chosen wears from different angles.

Initially, we were unsure of how popular the event would be, but any doubts were promptly put to bed as a crowd of early birds gathered and a stream of lovely folk continued to arrive throughout the day. People were able to purchase themselves a cocktail from the bar upstairs, venture downstairs to us and make a day of searching, discussing and trying on our vintage wears. This made for a very relaxed atmosphere, with complete strangers even sharing the fitting room and exchanging style advice. A constant chorus of laughter emanated from behind the curtain and the empty cocktail glasses found at the end of the day were a sure sign of the fun that was shared.

As debut markets go, we were totally overwhelmed with the turnout and the positive feedback we received. People seemed genuinely pleased to see an event like this happening in their local area. It was an absolute pleasure to meet so many lovely people and having the opportunity to chat with you on a personal level made the day that much more special. So a massive thank you to you all.

In fact, we had so much fun that we have restocked and will be returning to The Newmarket for more of the same on 5th March 2017. So, if you didn’t make our last one, be sure to stop by this time. We’re certain there’ll be something that tickles your fancy. Certainly, we can’t wait to meet and chat to some more lovely people.

In the meantime, keep spreading that Source Vintage love and keep tagging us in your SV styles! xx
